Memorial services for Mrs. Wilma Lee Quigg, who died Sunday at age 86, will be held Thursday, March 15th at the First Presbyterian Church, Fifth and Dewey, at 11:00 a.m. with the Pastor Andrew S. Odom officiating. Mrs. Quigg was a 65 year resident of Bartlesville and is remembered for her leadership in the church, the Phillips 66 Splash Club swim team and at Jane Phillips Hospital.


Mrs. Quigg was born on a farm near Boswell, OK, and graduated from Boswell High School. She moved to Bartlesville in the early 1940s and met her husband-to be, Harold, while working for Phillips Petroleum. They were married on Nov. 17, 1945. The late Mr. Quigg was a research engineer with Phillips Petroleum. .
Mrs. Quigg and her husband had four daughters who all participated in high school activities and the nationally known Phillips swim team. The Quiggs were known as the "model parents” for the swim club seeing that the Quigg daughters were at early morning practices and ready for their meet competition. This often involved the family traveling across country which created a family bond that exists today.
"If I close my eyes and picture her, I see a very sincere, honest person with a big smile on her face. She was always very sincere and honest mother who was very positive in her thinking,” said John Spannuth, former Splash Club head coach (1961-1967) and currently president of the U.S. Water Fitness Association in Boynton Beach, FL., " They ( Wilma and Harold) were always very, very honest, sincere and down-to-earth people who were always willing to help anybody. They were a fabulous family. They were the model family.”
"Wilma and Harold were very, very long-time faithful members of the Splash Club. Their children were what I would call team members, supporting the other swimmers. They were high-caliber young people, as well as their parents. Wilma and Harold were outstanding contributors to the youth and supported the community. The swimming meets did a lot to put Bartlesville on the map,” said Ken Treadway, Splash Club head coach and founder (1950-1960).
At the age of 50, Mrs. Quigg decided to go back to college and complete her education at Southeastern State University where she received her bachelors of science in medical technology degree in 1976.
Mrs. Quigg served as a medical technologist section head in hematology at Jane Phillips Hospital. After retiring from Jane Phillips Hospital she was still seen there helping patients and staff as a volunteer.
Mrs. Quigg was quite active in her church, belonging to the First Presbyterian Church Cynthia Morgan Circle for most of her adult life.
Mrs. Quigg and her husband enjoyed travel, from tent camping with their daughters in the 1950s and 1960s to world cruises to Egypt, Greece, and Alaska where in 1988 she was a participant in Volunteers in Mission at the College of Sitka, Alaska.
She also was a volunteer at the Bartlesville Public Library, an assistant at Kane Elementary School and helped cook Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Quigg was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and two brothers.
She is survived by her four daughters, Susan Marie Quigg of Kansas City, MO., W. Kay Fenrich of Woodland, CA., Mary Helen Quigg-Hillyer of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, and Nancy B. Quigg-Young of Spring, TX., four sisters, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
