Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, Oklahoma 918-256-5555.....May 22, 2018 Necia Elliott of Vinita left this earth to go dancing with her husband Vince in Heaven.
Necia was born June 19, 1923 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Stanley and Edna (Ditto) Clingenpeel. As the daughter of a carpenter during the depression they moved around some living in McCurtin and OKC before they settled in Muskogee, OK where she graduated from High School in 1941.
She attended Northeastern State University during WWII and told stories of all the men being away and of how the ladies played a lot of cards to pass the time. She made extra money as a dorm switchboard operator but said that she never listened in on the phone calls.
At Northeastern she was a drum majorette and loved playing intramural sports especially volleyball. She was selected as a member of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Her freshman year she was nominated for homecoming queen and Clark Gable was going to be the judge, but then his wife was killed in a plane crash so he cancelled. Necia was a member of the Delta Sigma Epsilon sorority and graduated in 1945, receiving a degree in education. She taught at several small schools including Welch.
She met her husband Vincent Elliott at a homecoming at NSU and they were married June 14, 1950 and made their home in Vinita. He had just started his business Elliott Truck Line.
She was a member of ESA sorority, won some trophies playing golf, was a campfire leader, attended some Inaugural Balls and above all loved her family.
Necia is survived by her daughter Jan and husband Bo Lovelace; her grandchildren, Todd Fimple and wife Rebecca, Holly Fimple, Trina Fowler and husband Bryon; great grandchildren, Jared Fimple, Nathan Fimple, Kelcee Fimple, Axyl Langford, and Colton Fowler; sister Micki Weeks of Grove, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband Vincent, son Cliff and sisters Delmoine Shepherd and Genelle Harlan precede her in death.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 4:30 pm in the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, Vinita, Oklahoma with Rev. Randy Little of the First United Methodist Church, Vinita, Oklahoma officiating. Internment service will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Fairview Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Grand Lake Fireworks Show in Disney, that her son Cliff helped initiate, or to the Vinita Library because Necia loved to read.
