Obituary for Rozella Vinita Uzzell (Souders)

Rozella Vinita Souders was born February 24, 1918 in Weaubleau, Missouri. She was the daughter of Francis M. Souders and Iva B. (Jackson) Souders. She was raised in Sedan, Kansas where she received her early education, graduating from Sedan High School in 1936. She furthered her education by attending Bartlesville Business School.
On October 9, 1942, Rozella and Richard Uzzell were united in marriage at First Presbyterian Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mr. Uzzell worked for Phillips Petroleum Company and then Cities Service Oil Company for over 30 years. He preceded her in death in 1988 while residing in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Rozella was a member of East Cross United Methodist Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She had devoted her life to being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker and employee of Cities Service Oil Company. During her 35-year career with Cities Service Oil Company, she went from a secretary to a management position, managing 15 L.P. gas plants in the Midwest. She was one of the first women to be in management with Cities Service Oil Company.
Her greatest joy was being with her family. She is survived by two children, Steven Uzzell and his wife, Jane, of Norfolk, Nebraska and Sharon Day and her husband, Lonnie, of Roland, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis Souders of Grove, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; brother, Homer Souders; and sister, Ita B. Call.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Oklahoma Chapter, Department 2845, Tulsa, OK 74182.
Come and go visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey, Bartlesville.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 3, at 10:00 AM at East Cross United Methodist Church in Bartlesville. Rev. Chad Perceful will be the officiant. Interment will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville beside her late husband, Richard.
