Obituary for Kevin Swalley

Worley Lugnbuel Funeral Home - Grove - 918-786-2261......

Kevin Swalley, 52, died unexpectedly at his home in Grove, OK, on Dec 13. Kevin was born in Riverside, CA. In 1974 he moved with his family to OKC, where he attended school and worked until moving to Seattle, WA., eventually returning to OKC, and finally to Grove in 2005.

A smoker for most of his life, Kevin began experimenting with various vaping products to break free of his habit, and over the next 4 years became an avid advocate for its use by other adults for that same purpose. In April 2013 he opened his company, VapersTek, in Grove, quickly adding a website, and a second store in Miami, OK, 2 years later. Sporting a tropical short-sleeve shirt, Bermuda shorts and tennis shoes, and one of his trademark hats, he could often be found visiting with customers and friends at his Grove store, sharing insights on vaping and life in general. More than anything else, he believed in God and helping people, and was proud to be a Christian, with plans to become an ordained minister.

Fishing was Kevin’s permanent passion and he spent many hours out on the water, pole in hand, with his Chihuahua sidekick Comet. An animal lover throughout life, and with an insatiable curiosity, Kev had variously hunted, possessed and studied snakes, turtles, crawdads, birds, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits and lizards. He had raised chickens, ducks, tadpoles, toads, and tropical fish, and not surprisingly spent much of his early professional life working at the Zoo in Oklahoma City, and many pet shops and supply houses in OKC and Seattle.

In death he joins his beloved grandmother Dora. Surviving him are his daughter Kirstin (Seattle), father Lester (Purcell), mother Virginia (Piedmont), younger sisters Jesmond (MWC) and Janine (OKC). Also dear Aunts Salome (Guthrie) and Norma (Sapulpa), and cousins Chris & Jim (Guthrie), Carissa and family (Owasso), and Lisa and family (Edmond).

Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com or on the Worley Luginbuel Facebook page.
