Obituary for Lawrence Ray Peerson

Lawrence Ray Peerson, 84 year old Vinita resident, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018. Lawrence was born in Bokoshe, OK on January 23, 1934 to Lloyd and Hazel (Gordon) Peerson. He graduated from Bokoshe High School in 1952. He attended Poteau Community College, now known as Carl Albert College, from 1952-1954. On September 7, 1954 in Poteau, OK he married the love of his life Wanda Sue Cupp. He served in the United States Army in Germany from 1955-1957. Upon returning to the states he continued his education at NSU where he received his master’s degree. He started his teaching and coaching career in Sullivan, MO and then later in Earlsburo, OK and Bokoshe, OK. He then went to Pryor, OK where he served as a high school counselor and drivers ed teacher. In 1968, he and his family moved to Vinita where he worked for the Department of Human Services as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. He retired from there in 1987.

Lawrence loved going to Colorado elk hunting, to Mexico bass fishing, and he loved fishing so much that he came up with the idea of Wanda’s Jigs. He loved to hunt, fish, have a garden, and play softball. He played college basketball at Poteau Community College. He enjoyed all sports and was an OU fan.
He was also an avid reader of the Bible and loved the Lord dearly as well as his church family. He was baptized into Christ in 1999 and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He was kind and loving and always looked for the best in people. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and was so proud of all of them.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Lloyd and Hazel Peerson, his sisters Judy Arter, Pat Fox, Erma Tolbert, and Wilma Ruth Peerson, two brothers Pete Peerson and John Calvin Peerson, and one daughter-in-law Mary Peerson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Wanda Peerson of the home, son Mark Peerson of Langley, daughter Lauren Starks and husband Ronnie of Vinita, grandchildren: Mandy Bryant of Wagoner, Margo Belcoff of Broken Arrow, and Justin Wright of Langley, six great grandchildren: Joci and Ellee Bryant, Zane and Isabelle Wright, and Pierce and Harper Belcoff, one sister Emma Dean Newton and husband Arnold of Harrison, AR and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Fairview Cemetery with Minister Bob Hampton officiating. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com
