Obituary for Lawanda "Beal" Hendricks

LaWanda Hendricks, age 94 and longtime resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 in the Heritage Villa Nursing Center.

LaWanda Beal was born on February 17, 1923 in Dillworth, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Arthur Beal, Sr. and Frances (Killion) Beal.

She grew up in the Coffeyville, Kansas area. She and her family moved to Alluwe, Oklahoma where she finished her education, graduating with her Sr. High School class.

LaWanda and Clete Hendricks were married on January 25, 1941 in Claremore, Oklahoma. Mr. Hendricks was in the U.S. Army at the time of their marriage. After his honorable discharge, the couple moved to Bartlesville in 1944 and Mr. Hendricks became an employee of Phillips Petroleum Company. LaWanda was a homemaker most of her life.

She was a member of the East Bartlesville Christian Church. When her health allowed, she was very active in several aspects of the church. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and when at home, she enjoyed her flowers and the birds that visited her back yard. However, her greatest enjoyment was spending time with family, especially her two grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Williams and her husband, Dan, of Bartlesville; grandsons, Andy Thurman and his wife, Christy, of Bartlesville, and Brad Thurman and his wife, Elizabeth, of Dallas, Texas; 5 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Addison, Will, Easton and Bradley; and special friends, Marvin and Mary Thurman of Bartlesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother and a sister.

The family wishes to thank the many loving caregivers from Heritage Villa and Grace Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in LaWanda’s memory be given to the donor’s choice.
