Obituary for Nadine Gravitt (Jones)

ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK (918) 336-5225 - Nadine Gravitt, age 94 and long-time resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on October 31, 2018 in the Heritage Villa Nursing Center, Bartlesville.

Nadine was born on June 6, 1924 in Bartlesville. She was originally given the name of “Geraldine”, but, as a young adult, had her name legally changed to “Nadine”. She was the daughter of George Harrison Jones, Sr. and Estelle May (Ferguson) Jones. She received all her formal education in Bartlesville, graduating with the Bartlesville High School Sr. Class of 1942. She met the love of her life, Miles Cleveland Gravitt, while he was living in Bartlesville, working for Landers Brothers Grocery. They married on July 21, 1942 and made their first home in Bartlesville.

Mr. Gravitt enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October 1942 and served during World War II. He was eventually stationed in San Diego, California. Soon after his relocation to the states, Nadine joined him and they lived in California during that time. Upon Miles’ honorable discharge from the service in 1945, he and Nadine returned to Bartlesville to make their home. Miles became an employee of Phillips Petroleum Company in 1951. In August of 1952, Nadine also became an employee of Phillips. Even though they never had children of their own, the couple loved their nieces and nephews as their own.

Nadine retired from the Engineering Department of the Phillips Petroleum Company on February 1, 1985 after almost 33 years of loyal service. Miles retired six months later and, together, they enjoyed many retirement years. Miles preceded Nadine in death on August 17, 2002. They had been married for 60 years.

Nadine enjoyed shopping, cooking, fishing and getting together with family and friends. Over the years, she and Miles had several homes built and she enjoyed those experiences very much. During the summer, her begonias were a bright splash of color in front of her home and she took photographs so she could enjoy their beauty all year long. She outlived all of her siblings which, in her own words, made her the “last of the Jones kids”.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Miles; three sisters, Edna Glenn, Alta Watkins and Anna Berger; two brothers, Eugene “Poss” Jones (Nadine’s twin brother) and George Harrison ”Broom” Jones, Jr. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and many longtime friends.

The family wishes to thank Grace Hospice and the many caregivers providing care for Nadine, especially Ashley and her staff at Green Country Village/Lakeview Memory Care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests giving to The Journey Home, 900 Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Come and go visitation will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 1-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Family will be present from 6-8:00 PM to greet friends on Sunday.

Services for Nadine will be held on Monday, November 5, at 10:00 AM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home chapel, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Rev. Buz Wierick will officiate with Chaplain Steven Griffith assisting. Interment will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville, beside her husband.
