Funeral services for Walter Laverne Beard Jr. are 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel in Nowata with Pastor Wendell Abbott officiating. Interment will follow at Ball Cemetery in Childers, Oklahoma. Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata, Oklahoma.

Walter Laverne Beard Jr., 86, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was born February 9, 1932 in Kaw City, Oklahoma to Walter Laverne Sr. and Florence (Mauck) Beard. On October 11, 1951, he married the love of his life, Barbara. Walter worked at Reda Pump/ Schlumberger Manufacturing in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he was an Inspector until his retirement. Then he decided to work part time at Atwood’s in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was an active member of the Union at Reda Pump and Dewey United Methodist Church. He enjoyed Little League Baseball with his boys, watching sports, going fishing, spending time with his family and friends. Walter had many friends and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Laverne Sr., and Florence Beard; Two brother; Robert and Lybran Beard, One Sister; Rosemary Miller and three Grandchildren; Trevor and Dayton Beard, and Cody Thurman.

Walter is survived by his wife, Barbara Beard of the home; three children; sons Mike Beard and Troy Beard, both of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and daughter, Sherry Thurman and her fiancé Dick Sanders also of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; two brothers; James Beard and his wife Ramona of Cherryvale, Kansas and Paul Beard and his wife Patricia of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Six Grandchildren, six Great Grandchildren and One Great-Great Grandchild.
