Jerry W. Smith, 83, of Cleveland, OK died on March 9, 2018 at Heritage Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bartlesville, Ok.
Jerry was born October 6, 1934 at the family home near Old Alluwe in Nowata County to Hershel and Ethel (Dick) Smith.
After graduation from Delaware High School in 1953, he held various jobs in the oil field and also worked at Longbell Lumber. He then went to work at the Akright Insurance Agency in 1961, later becoming a partner until he moved to Cleveland, OK becoming an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Group.
Jerry loved telling stories, and often said, “if I have told you this before, don’t stop me, I like to tell it.” If you knew Jerry at all, you have heard a “Lightnin’ Creek” tale. He always laughed at his own jokes. He loved playing “music” and singing – he entertained people in OK, TX, CO. He also enjoyed boating, golfing, playing dominoes and cards.
Jerry was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cleveland, and a member of the Scottish Rite 32- having held numerous offices. He was also a member of Western Heights Baptist Church in Cleveland, OK.
Jerry was retired from the U S Army, National Guard.
Survivors in: daughter, Jenifer Pierce (Johnnie) of Nowata, OK – sons, Jerold Smith (Ginger) and Jeffrey Smith (Cynnamon), both of Norman, OK. Step-children Rob Harper (Elaine) of Talala, OK, Dusty Harper (Jody) also of Talala, Ok Sandy Harper and Terri Harper Day – both of Cleveland, OK Brothers Tom (Vicky) Smith and Don (Betty) Smith.
Grandchildren: Julie Berger (Mat) Williamsburg, IN; Johnna Warden (Jay) Okarche, OK; Chelsea Smith (Kyle) Houston, TX and Olive Smith, Norman, Ok. Also, Travis Harper, Christi Harper, Toby Day, Tucker Day, Ashley Penner, Brandon Harper, and Chelsea Halilton.
Great-grandchildren: Johnie Anne & Raynee McDonnell, Clara, Elizabeth, and Annabelle Warden. Also, Charlotte and Gus Harper, Talan and Harper Day. Bryson, Davin and Caden Schondel, Addison Harper and Jade Hamiliton. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel & Ethel Smith. Wife (Sue Smith). Brothers Jay and LeRoy Smith. Nephews, Monty and Steve Smith.
Family services will be held at a later date.
