Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, Oklahoma 918-256-5555......On March 8, 2018 Virgil “Tecumseh” Lee Smith, Jr. passed from this life at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born February 6, 1950 in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Virgil Lee Smith, Sr. and Anna Mae (Allen) Smith. Tecumseh as his friends knew him, graduated from Vinita High School where he ran track, played basketball and football. Upon graduating Virgil enlisted in the Army where he served from 1968 – 1972. He then re-enlisted in the Army fighting on the front line during both deployments. Upon leaving the Army he enlisted in the Navy, and again was deployed to Vietnam. Virgil attended Rogers State College where he received an Associate of Science Degree. He then enrolled in Northeastern State University where he accumulated well over the hours needed to receive his bachelor’s degree in social studies. He was married to Gladys Caliman. He was a loving husband, father, and brother. As a disabled veteran he chose to spend his time traveling, cooking, fishing, planting, and caring for his dogs. Virgil will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving Mr. Smith are his wife Gladys of the home; children, Kevin Smith Arrington and wife Brooke of Tulsa; Virgel Smith, III and wife Danielle of Oklahoma City, Tameka Smith of Houston, Texas, one step-son Terry Blakey; eleven grandchildren, Rachel Stein, Rico Thompson, Ebony Nash, Taylor Daggs, Markeshia Hill, Sophie Arrington, Devine Smith Arrington, Albin Chasen, Alyssia Brewer, Carter Smith, Brendan Smith; one great grandchild, Jaden Chasen; siblings, Lawrence Morgan of Tulsa, Woster Lee Morgan of Vancouver, Canada, Robert Morgan of Los Angeles, California, Leender Cozin of Tulsa, David Smith of Tulsa, Deborah Brown of Tulsa, Betty Smith of Oakland, California; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Preceding Mr. Smith in death are his parents, Virgil and Anna Smith, and siblings Ralph Morgan and Sharon Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, Vinita, Oklahoma with Reverend Farris Downing officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
