Obituary for Illa Mae Miller

Illa Mae Miller, 84-year-old Vinita resident passed away at her daughter’s home in Bernice, Oklahoma February 7, 2018. She was born February 18, 1933 in Vinita to Gordon and Allie (Johnson) Lawson. In 1949 Illa Married the love of her life, Edward Miller in Miami, Oklahoma. She worked at Craig General as a nurse’s assistant for a brief time and was an employee at Eastern State Hospital for 22 years from which she retired proceeding the death of her husband. Illa was a member of the First Church of God in Vinita and served there as a member of the choir, lead singing, and taught Sunday School for a brief time. She also enjoyed cooking for the Church Bake Sales and helping with fundraisers. Illa enjoyed her beautiful pink roses that graced her front home but most of all enjoyed her family. She held a special place in her heart for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved country living and cooking for her family at cookouts and family gatherings. Illa was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many that will be missed by all who knew her.
Preceding Mrs. Miller in death are her husband, Edward Gene Miller; a son, Eddie Gene Miller; a grandson, Bobby Shelby; parents, Gordon and Allie Lawson; brothers, Lloyd Lawson & Floyd Lawson; a sister-in-law, Christine Lawson.
Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Preston and husband Bill of Bernice; four grandchildren, Stephanie Asher and husband Jeremiah, Eric Preston, Amy Hendricks, Amy Preston; great grandchildren, Madison Shelby, Sydney Shelby, Hunter Shelby, Ashton Warner, Brennan Asher, Jace Asher, Rett Hendricks; a nephew, Ronnie Lawson; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation for Illa Mae Miller will be held Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Vinita Oklahoma. The family suggests donations to the First Church of God in Vinita for the Bible Program or Feeding the Community Program. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com
