Obituary for Helen Cheek Taylor

Luginbuel Funeral Home Vinita, 918 –256 -5555……… Fern Helen Cheek Taylor, 93 year old former Vinita resident, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Richmond, TX. Helen’s daughter and son-in-law were by her side. Helen was born in Montrose, CO on July 5, 1924 to Fred King, Sr. and Fern Fay Ferris King. At only a few days old, Helen’s mother died from childbirth. Helen’s Uncle Sidney Harold King and Aunt Julia Louise Wood King took care of her and they became Helen’s loving parents. Helen married James E Cheek of Bluejacket, OK in 1942 in Grand Junction, CO. In 1952, Helen and James moved to Vinita where they called home.

Helen enjoyed taking care of her family, cooking, working in the family business of Jim’s Spraying and Exterminating and Roofing Service, and playing Pitch and Dominos. Helen was a member of the First Church of God and American Legion Auxiliary in Vinita, OK.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James E. Cheek. In 1982 James passed away and Helen remarried in 1986 to Lee “Leon” Taylor. She is survived by her four children and two stepdaughters; Harold Cheek and his wife Joyce of Oklahoma City, OK, Fred Cheek and his wife Lou of Lawton, OK, George Cheek and his wife Linda of Muscle Shoals, AL, and Reba Crump Cook and husband Jim of Richmond, TX, stepdaughter Janie Taylor Satterwhite of Miami, OK and Joyce Taylor Nowlin and husband Ronnie of Vinita, OK. Helen was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren; Cindy Cheek Box of Clinton, OK, Beverly Cheek Akins and her husband Raymond of Ocean Springs, MS, Jimmy Cheek and wife Chrissy of Edmond, OK, Morgan Cheek and wife Vannah of Muscle Shoals, AL, Jamie Cheek Huffman and husband Caleb of Vinita, OK, Allen Crump and wife Meredith of Round Rock, TX, Eric Crump and wife Jackie of Richmond, TX, Melissa Crump Newberry and husband John of Spring, TX. Step grandchildren Stacey Satterwhite and wife Nichole of Miami, OK, Brad Satterwhite of Miami, OK, Janatha Nowlin Schreiner and husband Craig of Tulsa, OK, and Justin Nowlin of Vinita, OK. Helen has 8 great grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita, OK.

Funeral services for Fern Helen Cheek Taylor will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, OK with Pastor Eddie Wrinkle of First Church of God officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home
